Christmas 2025

Find any changes to the waste and recycling services that may affect you over the Christmas period

All you need to know

Extra waste

We'll collect extra waste on the first refuse collection after Christmas. Please leave it in bags next to your black bin.

You can leave cardboard next to your bin at any time as long as it is no bigger than 70cm x 70cm, flattened, clean, dry and loose.

We provide glass collection crates free of charge for kerbside collection of glass. You can request multiple crates and leave these out for collection if needed. If you'd like to collect these rather than order online, they are available from:

  • Hart District Council Civic Offices, Harlington Way, Fleet GU51 4AE
  • Hook Parish Council, Community Centre, Ravenscroft RG27 9NN
  • Yateley Town Council, Reading Road GU46 7RP
  • Elvetham Heath Parish Council, The Key Centre, The Keys, Fleet GU51 1HA

What can you recycle from Christmas?

Please don't put shredded paper in your recycling bin. We will take greetings cards and gift tags in recycling but only if these don't have glitter on. You should remove any sticky tape or ribbon and make sure cards containing batteries don't end up in the bin.

Wrapping paper cannot be recycled, unless it is plain brown paper. Wrapping paper is often dyed, laminated and/or contains non-paper additives such as gold and silver-coloured shapes, glitter, and plastics, which cannot be recycled.

Don't forget to recycle your small electricals!

New electric toothbrush for Christmas? Hand blender finally given up? Don't forget you can leave small electricals out for collection with either of your bins. Place them in a plastic bag on top of the bin to be picked up.

If you received a new electrical item for Christmas please consider donating the old one if still working so it can be reused. Find out about our small electricals recycling service

Christmas tree recycling

If you have a real Christmas tree and subscribe to our garden waste collection service, you can leave this out for recycling with your green waste collection when this restarts in January.

If you don't subscribe to the garden waste collection service we have eight free Christmas tree recycling points across the district. These will be available from Friday 2 January to Saturday 31 January 2026.

We are currently finalising the locations for the collection points this year and will publish them here as soon as available.

These points are for real Christmas trees only. Please don’t take artificial trees, decorations, or trees over 1.8 m (they can be cut in half).

The trees collected are then transformed into ProGrow Soil conditioner for gardens and wood chippings for our parks.
