Financial support and discounts for carers

Financial support and discounts are available if your caring duties are affecting your finances. 

We have put together a list of local places that offer free or reduced entry to nearby places which you can read in our carers discount leaflet.

Council tax discounts

Depending on your circumstances, you may be eligible for a discount or exemption from paying your Council Tax. Discounts can be provided for carers, disabled people and those with severe mental impairment (among others).

Free garden membership for carers

To support the health and wellbeing of unpaid carers in Hart, we are now offering a free annual membership to Hart’s Community Graden worth £80. The garden is just outside Fleet on the edge of Edenbrook Country Park.

Members enjoy group gardening sessions during the week (Monday to Thursday) complete with tools, equipment and a share of produce among other benefits.

Free or discounted leisure access

Everyone Active provide free gym and swim while assisting the person you care for and concession rate membership when carers use the centre themselves. Other discounts are available on memberships for residents with a disability or Parkinson’s disease.

Free blue badge parking

Blue Badge holders can currently park free of charge in Hart District Council’s pay and display car parks in marked bays.

Housing grants

Other housing grants may be available to you if you are on certain benefits – such as Minor Works Grants, Disabled Facilities Grant and the Warm Homes Grant. For more information, visit the Grants and funding page.

Check your eligibility for financial support

Depending on your circumstances, you could:

  • claim carer’s allowance or other benefits
  • cut down your household bills with Council Tax reductions, home upgrades or a free or discounted TV licence
  • claim contributions towards your state pension
  • get help with NHS prescriptions and health costs
  • ensure the person you care for is also getting the financial support they need
