Conservation areas

Conservation area character appraisals help residents understand the history of an area and why it is special

Conservation areas are places of special architectural or historic interest that we want to preserve and enhance. They are subject to tighter controls over demolition, minor development and the protection of trees.

Conservation area appraisals help everyone understand the history of an area and why it is special. They list buildings and features that make a positive contribution to the character and appearance of the area.

We currently have 32 conservation areas in Hart.

Please contact us if you need any of the following reports in a different format.

Conservation area appraisal template and guidance

Hart District Council supports any Parish or Town Council that wishes to create or update a conservation area appraisal.

The Council has drafted the following guidance for Parish and Town Councils: Preparing Conservation Area Appraisals: Guidance for Parish & Town Councils. The purpose of this document is to clarify the process and explain how the Council will support that process.

A template in Word is available for use by Parish and Town Councils to help draft appraisals. A Publisher version is also available on request. Please email the Policy Team for a copy on planningpolicy@hart.gov.uk.
