Personal licences

You must apply for a personal licence if you are the designated premises supervisor on a premises licence

You need a personal alcohol licence if you:

  • want to sell alcohol at a premises that holds a premises licence

  • want to apply for more than five temporary event notices in a year

  • are a designated premises supervisor at a premises that holds a premises licence

You must:

  • be over 18

  • hold a relevant licensing qualification (in almost all cases)

You don’t need a personal licence to be employed in a pub or other business that sells alcohol. You can only hold one personal licence at a time.

Please note, you no longer need to renew your personal licence when it expires.
