Housing grants and loans

Disabled facilities grants

Disabled people sometimes need changes made to their homes for safety, comfort and convenience.

Disabled facilities grants are available to help with changes such as:

  • level access showers
  • hoists
  • stairlifts
  • kitchen adaptations
  • ramping and access works

Grants of up to £30,000 are available to owner-occupiers and tenants, including tenants of social landlords.

They are means tested, which means we must check how much of a contribution, if any, you can make.

An occupational therapist from social services must provide a referral before we can process a grant application.

You can make a request via the Hampshire County Council self-referral form.

The grant will only be paid when the work has been completed properly. The grant can be paid in full when the work is finished or in instalments as it progresses.

You may have to repay some of the grant if:

  • you move within five years of the work being completed and
  • it was over £5,000 and the work has added value to the property
