Sheltered housing

Sheltered housing is usually grouped in clusters of self-contained flats or bungalows. It often offers communal facilities such as a lounge, laundry room, guest room and gardens.

There is an age restriction applied for people who wish to live in sheltered accommodation. This will differ from one scheme to another but is usually for those aged over 55.

Some sheltered housing schemes have staff on site during the working day who can help with tenancy and maintenance-related queries, but do not offer care or support services. It may be possible for residents with care and support needs to live within sheltered housing with appropriate care and support provided from external organisations.
