Armed forces community

Find out about our commitment to the armed forces and the support available to serving personnel, their families and veterans

We're proud of our historic connections with the armed forces in Hart. Armed forces personnel, their families, veterans and reservists are all important members of our community.

The Armed Forces Covenant

The Armed Forces Covenant is a national promise to those who serve in the armed forces, veterans and their families that we will do all we can to make sure they are treated fairly and are not disadvantaged in their day-to-day lives.

We re-signed our Hart Armed Forces Community Covenant in May 2023.

In June 2024, Hart was awarded the Silver Award in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme which recognises our support of the armed forces and their families in Hart.

  • apply to register to vote online as an ordinary voter
  • apply to register to vote online as a service voter. This will give you a registration for up to five years. You’ll get a reminder when it’s time to renew.

You can find out more information on the Hart District Council Registering to vote pages.

Housing advice and support

We don’t own any houses but we do provide a housing register for people who want to rent a housing association home in Hart.

Applicants to the register are usually required to have a local connection with the district, but there are some exemptions for armed forces personnel and their families.

We may also consider applications from members of the armed forces community without a local connection such as veterans and immediate family of service personnel who have died.

For further information, visit our pages on finding a home in Hart.
