Council funding sparks community climate action

Solar panels on Men's Shed

Hart District Council has awarded Climate Change Community Grants totalling £26K to a range of local organisations, helping them take practical action on climate change.

The grants will support community groups and voluntary organisations to deliver a range of energy‑saving improvements across the district. St Peter’s Church in Yateley received £8,000 for the installation of solar panels, alongside further grants of £4,500 each to Baker Hall Scout and Guide Venue and Church Crookham and Fleet Men’s Shed to support solar panel and battery installations.

£4,500 grants have also been awarded to Odiham Parish Council for LED lighting upgrades at the Bridewell Community Hub in the village and to Yateley Town Council to help deliver solar panel installation and heating upgrades at Monteagle Community Centre.

Councillor Richard Quarterman, Portfolio Holder for Climate Change and Corporate Services, said “This is the second year of our Climate Change Community Grant scheme and it’s encouraging to see the level of enthusiasm from our community. The projects should result in reduced emissions and help the organisations save money on costly energy bills.

“Each project demonstrates a shared commitment to our ambition of becoming a carbon‑neutral district by 2040 and I look forward to seeing the positive impact these initiatives will have across the district.”
