You need to register with us if your club or society wants to run a small lottery including raffles for a good cause.
A small lottery needs to be non-commercial and not for personal gain. It could be:
for charity
to support sporting or cultural activities
for another good cause
Your small lottery must have:
ticket sales totalling no more than £20,000
total proceeds of no more than £250,000 a year
Lotteries not promoted by a society, or where the value of tickets for sale in a lottery exceeds £20,000, must register with the Gambling Commission and not with us.
You can appeal to the local magistrates’ court against a lottery registration decision. You must appeal within 21 days of the decision.
Your small lottery must comply with the Gambling Act 2005.
In particular, children under 16 years must not sell or buy small society lottery tickets.
If convicted of an offence, you could be fined and/or sent to prison for up to 51 weeks.
