We've installed electric charge points and LED lighting in our car parks and our waste collection vehicles are powered by vegetable oil
Two vehicles in our fleet have been replaced with electric vehicles.
We have installed electric vehicle charge points at a number of Hart-owned car parks. Car parks include Church Road and Victoria Road in Fleet, Crossways Manor and The Bury in Hook and Deer Park View in Odiham.
Charge points are also in the car park at the Civic Centre in Fleet. This allows us to charge council vans onsite and offer the service to motorists.
Meanwhile, rubbish and recycling bin collections are set to get greener.
Waste and recycling collection trucks will be powered by hydrogenated vegetable oil as a low-carbon biofuel. With emissions up to 98% lower than diesel, using conversion figures provided by Government, the biofuel will make significant cuts to our carbon footprint.
We have upgraded the lighting in all of our car parks to energy-efficient LED lighting.
This should reduce energy use by about 50-60% and be cheaper to maintain. The new LEDs should last 20+ years, compared to the three to four years for the old high-pressure sodium lights.
