As we continue to experience very dry conditions, we’re following national guidance and advice from conservation organisations across the UK on pond management.
Many local ponds and water sources are shrinking or drying up due to the drought. While this can look alarming, most pond wildlife is naturally adapted to cope with occasional dry spells, and birds and other mobile animals can move elsewhere to find water and shelter.
Although it may be tempting to help, entering ponds can disturb fragile habitats and wildlife at a time when they are already under pressure.
