Hart confirms readiness to deliver May 2026 elections alongside devolution and reorganisation work

Hart District Council has today confirmed it does not agree with the Government that preparations for devolution and local government reorganisation create “insurmountable challenges” to running the scheduled elections on Thursday 7 May 2026.

The Council is confident it has the plans, capacity and partnerships in place to deliver safe, secure and wellrun polls for residents.

Councillor David Neighbour, Leader of Hart District Council, said: "Local democracy matters, especially at a time of change. Our message is straightforward: Hart can do both - prepare for the new governance arrangements and run excellent elections in May 2026.

"Residents deserve continuity, certainty and a say at the ballot box, and we are ready to provide exactly that."
