New Electric Vehicle Chargers coming to Hart

In its commitment to fight climate change, Hart District Council has approved the installation of Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers across Hart. The project will provide an expected 36 public charge points, both rapid and fast chargers, across the district in council-owned car parks for residents and visitors to use.

Based on an initial feasibility study, the following car parks are expected to receive electric vehicle charging points:

  • Monachus Lane, Hartley Wintney
  • Victoria Road, Fleet
  • Station Approach, Blackwater
  • Crossways, Reading Road, Hook
  • Hart Leisure Centre, Fleet
  • The Bury, Odiham
  • Deer Park, Odiham

A detailed feasibility study will now be undertaken to ensure there is enough electricity grid capacity at the chosen car parks for the chosen charge types and the exact locations of them.

Cllr David Neighbour, Leader of Hart District Council, said: “This new electric vehicle infrastructure across Hart will help support our residents and visitors who have taken a great step to being carbon neutral. We want to make it as easy for those who will switch in the future to do so and realise how convenient driving an electric vehicle can be.”

There is no cost to Hart District Council to install the charge points and it’s expected that over the lifetime of the contract the council will receive a small profit share.

Alongside the work Hart District Council is doing to support the infrastructure, Hampshire County Council is currently taking requests for on-street charging locations.
