As families and friends make the most of the summer holidays, the Council is reminding everyone to help keep our area clean, green and enjoyable for all.
Whether you're visiting one of our country parks, exploring the countryside or spending time in one of Hart’s towns and villages, we’re asking residents and visitors to take their rubbish home or use the nearest bin.
Council teams work within the community to deter littering, dog fouling and anti-social behaviour across parks, towns and villages as part of its Pride in Place initiative. This is a campaign aimed at enhancing the visual appeal and cleanliness of Hart’s public spaces.
While most people dispose of their waste responsibly, even small amounts of litter can have a big impact on the environment, local wildlife and the appearance of our streets and green spaces.
Councillor Tina Collins, portfolio holder for Community Safety, said: "Summer is a wonderful time to get out and enjoy everything Hart has to offer. We're asking everyone to do their bit by putting their litter in a bin or taking it home with them.
“Most people already do the right thing, and we're grateful for their support. Our cleansing team works hard throughout the year to maintain public spaces, but littering remains an avoidable problem that takes time and money to clear up.”
While the focus is on encouraging responsible behaviour, the Council is reminding people that littering is an offence. Enforcement officers patrol across the district and Fixed Penalty Notices may be issued to anyone caught dropping litter.
In the past year, we have issued 80 Fixed Penalty Notices for littering and took six cases to court with fines totalling £4,702 for non-payment.
