Leisure centres help local schools

Leisure facilities in Hart are supporting primary schools in the area by launching its new ‘Adopt a School’ scheme.

Hart Leisure Centre, run by Everyone Active in partnership with Hart District Council, has introduced the innovative programme to encourage regular exercise amongst children.

The unique scheme allows schools to benefit from a month of free activity, including in-centre sports programmes, educational talks and free gym and swim membership for parents. Children can also access free swim sessions with their parents.

The initiative is set to run each month of the academic year, starting with Tavistock Infant School Primary School visiting Hart Leisure Centre in July.

Luke Charlton, Contract Manager at Everyone Active, said: “It’s very important for children of all ages to engage in physical exercise and we think that our new scheme will not only engage them but will also be great fun.

“We’re looking forward to working with schools in the area to introduce them and their families to new activities and help educate them on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.”

Cllr Stuart Bailey, Cabinet Member for Community Services at Hart District Council, added: "My thanks to Everyone Active for facilitating this new scheme. Health and wellbeing is a high priority for the council and we fully support new programmes such as this that will benefit our community."
