We want every visitor to our countryside enjoying each moment. We love dogs, and getting out in nature to walk your furry friend has fantastic benefits for your health and wellbeing. All we ask is that you follow our simple steps for responsible dog ownership:
- Leave only paw prints, not poo piles! Pick up after your dog, bag it and bin it, any public waste bin will do!
- Cows don’t play chase. Keep your dog on a lead near livestock - it’s the law, and it’s just good manners.
- It’s not just your walk - please be mindful of our local wildlife, it's their home too.
- Don’t ruffle feathers, keep ‘Paws on Paths’ from 1 March to 15 September to protect ground nesting birds.
- Follow local signs for the freshest information and the safest stroll, to keep you and your dog safe.
Dog faeces is unpleasant for all users, but it's also dangerous for everyone in the countryside. Dog mess can carry pathogens that survive in the environment for a long time. These can infect other dogs, wildlife, and even people - especially children, who are more likely to touch it. Plant life is also effected, dog poo releases excess nitrogen and phosphorus, which can damage plant life.
Together, we can keep our countryside a relaxing and enjoyable space for everyone and make sure wildlife has a safe place to flourish - thank you.
