Honouring our Armed Forces community

This Armed Forces Day on 27 June will see a convoy of classic military vehicles making its way from Aldershot to Alton.

Hart residents can catch the spectacle of 60-plus vehicles as it passes through the district at Church Crookham, Fleet town centre, Hartley Wintney, Hook and Odiham.

Hart is proud to mark Armed Forces Day to show our support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, from currently serving personnel to service families, veterans and cadets.

Councillor Chris Dorn, Armed Forces Champion at Hart District Council, said: “As holders of the Silver Award in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, we are committed to supporting the Armes Forces and their families in Hart, making sure they are treated fairly and are not disadvantaged in their day-to-day lives.

“The convoy is certainly going to be impressive and we are looking forward to giving it a special welcome at RAF Odiham where it will pause before making its way to Alton.”

Now in the seventh year of road runs, the remit of the volunteers who organise the convoys is to salute our Armed Forces, past and present, and to promote and raise funds for the annual Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

People can also join in the national  Armed Forces event, hosted by Rushmoor Brough Council at Queens Avenue in Aldershot - a weekend of events to honour the history and current service of the Armed Forces. To find out more and book free tickets, visit the Rushmoor website.

And the same weekend the Royal Military School of Music will be playing two concerts at Hawley Lake - joined by the renowned Band of The Coldstream Guards and the Band of The Rifles. On Saturday 27 June enjoy Proms by the Lake and Big Band by the Lake on Sunday 27 June. Ticket are £5 and children under 16 are free.
