The Council is improving the temporary accommodation we provide through a new project to support people facing homelessness.
As part of a 2.5 million scheme, Heathlands Court in Yateley will be refurbished and redesigned to create better temporary homes for families who need somewhere to stay while they find permanent housing.
The project is being delivered in partnership with VIVID Housing and will modernise and improve the 1970s building to ensure it continues to meet local needs in the future and as demand for temporary accommodation increases.
Heathlands Court is Council-owned and has been leased to VIVID Housing on a long lease. It currently provides 23 self-contained one and two-bedroom flats.
The changes will create many improvements to the existing small, bedsit-style layouts, to include more internal living space with private, separate bedrooms, a better play area and parking. There will also be upgrades to the current bin store, secure storage for pushchairs and bicycles, larger laundry facilities and energy-efficient heating and lighting.
Councillor Peter Wildsmith, portfolio holder for housing and community services, said: “The refurbishment of Heathlands Court shows the Council’s commitment to meeting the growing need for temporary housing and helping people who need support. By investing in the building now, we can make sure our housing is fit for the future and able to meet changing needs.
“Once the work is finished, Heathlands Court will provide better-quality accommodation for residents during a difficult period in their lives, helping them move on to more permanent housing.”
Alex Nagle, Customer Services Director at VIVID, said: "Having access to a safe, good-quality home can make a real difference. Working in partnership with Hart District Council, we're improving Heathlands Court to provide better temporary accommodation for local families, with more space, better facilities and homes that are designed around people's needs while they find a permanent place to live.”
