Hart District Council has launched a councillor grant scheme to support community projects celebrating King Charles’s Coronation in May.

It is anticipated that many ceremonial, celebratory and community events will take place over the Coronation weekend between Saturday 6 and Monday 8 May 2023.

Projects applying for grants should benefit communities in councillor wards celebrating the Coronation in that area.

For each of the 11 District Council wards, a total of £1,000 grant funding is available. Grants can be awarded for a minimum of £100 and a maximum of £1,000 and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

The grants are offered to community groups and parish and town councils. Local groups not affiliated to an organisation can apply through their parish or town council.

Councillor Stuart Bailey, portfolio holder for Community, said “The Coronation of King Charles III and the extra bank holiday awarded for this is a unique opportunity for celebration across Hart and indeed the whole of the UK.

“Following the successful roll-out of community grants to support the fantastic 2022 Queen’s Platinum Jubilee events, we are delighted to again help community groups celebrate another memorable royal occasion.”

The closing date for applications is when all funds have been allocated or Friday 31 March 2023. More details, including the application form and full terms and conditions, can be found on the Coronation celebrations section of the Hart District Council website.

This Coronation celebrations area also includes useful information to help residents take part in the occasion with friends, family, neighbours and their wider community such as street party guidance and national events.
