Fleet Pond Nature Reserve has been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as one of the very best in the UK. The Pond joins Hartley Wintney Central Commons and Elvetham Heath Local Nature Reserve to claim this award for the 11th year in a row.
Green spaces are judged against a range of criteria from maintenance and cleanliness, environmental management and biodiversity, landscape and heritage through to community involvement.
This international award is the highest possible environmental standard for parks and greenspaces, meaning sites where a flag is flying are both beautifully maintained as well as having excellent visitor facilities.
Leader of Hart District Council, Cllr David Neighbour said: “We know how much quality green spaces matter to residents and visitors, and this award celebrates the dedication that goes into maintaining Fleet Pond to such a high standard.
“The award is testament to the hard work of both the Countryside Service team and the many volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain these sites for the benefit of Hart residents. With special thanks to the Fleet Pond Society who work with us to fundraise for and preserve Hampshire’s largest freshwater lake.”
