A fly-tipper caught on Council CCTV has been fined more than £1,300 after dumping green waste in Fleet.
The images captured two men in a white Ford Transit van fly-tipping in Bramshot Lane in September last year. Checks revealed the vehicle had no valid tax nor MOT at the time of the offence.
Further investigation identified the registered keeper of the vehicle. Despite repeated letters requesting that they attend an interview under caution to discuss the incident, no response was received.
An initial court hearing was scheduled for May 2025, but the defendant failed to attend and an arrest warrant was issued by the court. This warrant was executed last Friday when the individual pleaded guilty at Guildford Magistrates’ Court.
He was ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid community service and fined £1,388, broken down as £775 towards clean-up costs, £449 towards Council costs and £114 victim surcharge.
Councillor Tina Collins, portfolio holder for Community Safety, said: “We have a zero-tolerance approach to fly-tipping, and this is helped by our diligent enforcement teams who identified the illegal activity on CCTV.
“There is absolutely no excuse for this criminal behaviour. Not only is it a blight on our beautiful green spaces, but it costs taxpayers to clear up.”
