A county-wide programme is coordinating changes to local government across Hampshire

Local government in Hampshire is changing to make the system simpler, more connected and better able to meet local needs. This is known as Local Government Reorganisation (LGR).

A Hampshire-wide programme is coordinating LGR across the county, called Future Hampshire. It has been set up to provide a shared approach to planning and delivering the reorganisation. It brings together councils across mainland Hampshire to plan and prepare for four future unitary councils to be established in April 2028.

As part of the programme, a new website has been set up. Developed jointly by Hampshire councils, the website brings together the latest information about LGR, including key milestones, programme updates and answers some of the questions you might have.

It has been designed as a central source of information to help people understand what is changing, why it is happening and what it means for you.

Once the new unitary councils are established in April 2028, there will be new websites created for each of them, so this website is temporary.
