Hart District Council will join with Basingstoke and Deane and Rushmoor Borough Councils to form one unitary authority for north Hampshire from April 2028
Key dates for devolution and local government reorganisation
The Government is considering the submissions it received to its consultation on local government reorganisation in Hampshire. A decision will be made on local government reorganisation for a new shadow unitary authority in Spring 26. Mayoral elections for a strategic authority for Hampshire and the Solent are now expected in 2028.

| December 2024 | Government published the English Devolution White Paper. This proposes creating new Mayoral Combined Authorities alongside local government reorganisation |
