Tattooing and special treatments
You must register with us if you offer special treatments such as tattooing, acupuncture and electrolysis
You must register with us if you plan to offer:
- tattooing
- semi-permanent skin colouring
- cosmetic piercing
- acupuncture
- electrolysis
You must also register your premises if you have them.
Before you apply to register, please make sure that you can meet our skin piercing byelaws (see Related content) for the services listed above.
Fees
Please check our tattooing and special treatments fees page before submitting your application.
We charge these fees because it takes time for us to assess that you comply with relevant by-laws. We will not refund your fees if you fail to meet the requirements of the by-laws, so please ensure you do so before applying for your registration.

Massage or other treatments
You do not need to register your business if you offer:
- massage
- manicure
- chiropody
- light treatments, e.g. sunbeds
- other treatments involving heat, light or vapour, e.g. sauna
