Corporate Peer Challenge

Corporate Peer Challenge is an improvement and assurance tool that is delivered by the public sector for the public sector.

Following our Corporate Peer Challenge in April 2025, we welcomed the team from Local Government Association back to Hart District Council in February 2026.

The team of senior councillors and officers from other local authorities reviewed our progress against the ten recommendations they made in the original report. The recommendations included making sure we develop our vision for our district and building plans ahead of local government reorganisation whilst maintaining services to residents.

In their informal feedback, the LGA recognised:

  • the strength of our culture. We have broad staff engagement and survey results that many councils would love to have
  • how services across the council have continued to improve and deliver, from customer services and finance to waste, planning, country parks and leisure
  • the growing external recognition for our work, including awards, exemplar status and invitations to take part in national pilots.

They were also encouraged by the care and attention we're taking around local government reorganisation.
