Fleet Pond is the largest freshwater lake in Hampshire and the nature reserve has 141 acres of varied habitats. The surrounding land features heathland, woodland, reedbed and marsh, and is home to many species of birds, butterflies, dragonflies and wildflowers. Fleet Pond is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and holds a prestigious Green Flag Award.
The area is managed by our Countryside Ranger Service in partnership with Fleet Pond Society which provides support to the rangers as well as offering exciting volunteering opportunities for the local community.

Fishing at Fleet Pond
The fishing season is closed at Fleet Pond from 15 March 2026 to 15 June 2026.
The fishing permit application form will be available once the season re-opens.
Before applying for a permit from the Council, please ensure you have a rod licence from the Environment Agency.
You can be fined up to £2,500 if you cannot show a valid rod fishing licence when asked.
Children under 13 do not need an Environment Agency licence but you’ll need to get a junior licence for children aged between 13 and 16. Junior licences are free, and you will still need to buy a fishing permit for under-16s.

Cows at Fleet Pond
Our cows are now in Woodlane Heath Grazing Zone 2 of the reserve.
Grazing Zone 3 at Fleet Pond Nature Reserve is temporarily closed.
This is to give the cattle some space, peace and quiet. Please use the path that bypasses this section for the time being. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Please adhere to the signage on site and ensure:
- all gates are closed
- dogs are kept under close control
- dog waste and litter are put in the bin
- cattle are not fed or touched
