Creating a Green Grid for Hart
Linking our people, communities and green spaces in a single network across the district
Green Grid is the name for our plan to improve quality of life and the environment in Hart by linking people, communities and green spaces in a single network.
Our 2040 Vision imagines green corridors between all settlements to encourage walking, cycling and other types of sustainable transport.
The Green Grid will also support improvements to our country parks and green spaces – with potential benefits for local ecology, biodiversity, leisure and recreation.
Developing the Green Grid
In 2020, we consulted on a strategy to create the Green Grid (please email communications@hart.gov.uk for a copy of the results).
More recently we worked with cycling and walking charity Sustrans, and in partnership with Hampshire County Council, to start our Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan.
The results of this work will inform development of the Green Grid.
Green Grid pilot route
We have created a new Green Grid cycling and walking pilot route between Hartland Village in Fleet and Fleet Railway Station, passing around Fleet Pond.
This included work to widen the footpath next to the pond and to improve the access road and car park. The work was supported by the developer, St Edward, and the M3 Local Enterprise Partnership.
Next, we plan to extend the route into Bramshot Lane at one end and into Hartland Village at the other, and to provide signage along the route.
