Features

Fleet Pond is the largest freshwater body in Hampshire and the nature reserve has 141 acres of varied habitats. The surrounding land features heathland, woodland, reedbed and marsh, and is home to many species of birds, butterflies, dragonflies and wildflowers. Fleet Pond is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and holds a prestigious Green Flag Award.

The area is managed by our Countryside Ranger Service in partnership with Fleet Pond Society which provides support to the rangers as well as offering exciting volunteering opportunities for the local community.

Fishing at Fleet Pond

The fishing season is now open at Fleet Pond, from 16 June 2026 to 14 March 2027.

To fish at Fleet Pond, you will need

Children under 13 do not need an Environment Agency licence but you’ll need to get a junior licence for children aged between 13 and 16. Junior licences are free, but you will still need to buy a fishing permit for under-16s.

Apply for a fishing permit

The process time for all fishing permits, including a day ticket, is between one and two weeks so make sure to take this into account when planning your visit. Make sure you have your rod licence and fishing permit with you when you visit the site, ready to show the rangers when asked.

Permit fee

Ensure you make your payment as soon as you have competed the application form - applications without payment cannot be processed.

You will need to upload a photo of your Environment Agency rod licence. Please make payment through our payment portal. Please select ‘More payments’, then ‘Countryside’ from the drop-down box and finally choose ‘Fleet Pond Fishing Permit’ from the second drop-down box. You will receive a confirmation email and sent your printable permit.

There are no toilets on site, the nearest toilets are in the train station Fleet - Google Maps - 12 minute walk (0.6 miles) from the car park.

Pathways

Hard standing compacted gravel routes around the pond suitable for wheelchairs. Some routes are on uneven / muddy paths depending on the time of year.
