Help paying your bills

If you were born before 23 September 1958 you could get either £200 or £300 to help you pay your heating bills for winter 2024 to 2025. This is known as a ‘Winter Fuel Payment’.

Most people will receive the payment automatically if they are eligible.

The cash payment is given to pensioner households to help with the higher cost of energy over the colder months. To receive a Winter Fuel Payment this year, you must have been born before 23 September 1958 and had been claiming one of the following benefits between 16 September and 22 September 2024:

• Income Support
• Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
• Pension Credit
• Universal Credit
