Free prescriptions

You can get free NHS prescriptions if you:

  • are 60 or over
  • are under 16
  • are 16 to 18 and inf full-time education
  • are pregnant
  • have a specified medical condition, including cancer and diabetes
  • receive certain benefits such as Income Support or Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance

Prepayment scheme

If you are struggling with paying for regular prescriptions, you can apply for a prescription prepayment certificate to help you save money. It covers all your NHS prescriptions, including NHS dental prescriptions, no matter how many items you need.

NHS Low Income Scheme

If you have a low income, you may be able to get help with NHS costs. The scheme covers the costs for prescriptions, dental treatment, eye care and healthcare travel.
