Council buildings

What we're doing to make our buildings more energy-efficient

The Council owns 20 buildings, including facilities leased to organisations such as town and parish councils, as well as other organisations that align with our corporate approach. To maximise our climate impact, we’re focusing current action on buildings where we have direct operational control, such as the Civic Centre and contracted services like leisure centres.

We have completed energy efficiency audits on the priority council-owned buildings to identify opportunities for carbon reduction and cost savings and are in the process of delivering energy efficiency measures across our estate, such as improving insulation and upgrading to LED lighting.

We have identified leisure centres as the source of a large proportion of our emissions and are working with the leisure centre operator on carbon reduction plans, including implementing energy efficiency measures and plans to replace fossil fuel heating systems with air source heat pumps.
