Need financial help? There could be a grant for your home

The government runs several schemes to help people upgrade the heating and insulation of their homes. Some of these grants have eligibility criteria based on income and/or vulnerability around personal health (e.g. susceptibility to the cold). However, some of these grants are dependent on your property's energy performance, and/or Council Tax band, instead of you as an individual.

Warm Homes Grant

Households can receive solar panels, battery storage, home insulation and air-source heat pumps under the Warm Homes Local Grant. Over time, this will help residents reduce energy bills and use greener energy in the home.

To be eligible, your home must:

  • be in England
  • be in a privately owned property (either by you or your landlord)
  • have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) of D, E, F or G – if you do not know your home’s EPC, you can find it out when you apply
  • have a household income of £36,000 a year or less, or someone in your household is in receipt of certain benefits.
