Paralympic champion encourages children with disabilities to get active in Hart

Hart Leisure Centre will once again be hosting its ‘Active for All’ event with Paralympic champion Sascha Kindred CBE.

The leisure centre, ran in partnership with Hart District Council, will be hosting the inclusive free afternoon on Saturday 1 February. The special event is open to families with disabled children or children with additional needs and will showcase the range of inclusive activities available at the centre.

One of our most successful Paralympians in swimming, Sascha will be running a dedicated pool session from 2-4pm where he will be showcasing his world-class skills before helping build the confidence of the children taking part.

Sasha competed at six Paralympic Games and won 13 medals, including seven golds. Over 23 years, he won 62 international medals and he still holds 12 British records.

The afternoon starts at 1pm with a football taster session, run in conjunction with the Hampshire FA. From 1:30pm, there will be a dedicated gymnastics session for children in small groups and a quieter environment. Multi-sports sessions, gym taster sessions and use of Hart’s new soft play facility will also be available throughout the day.

Sascha said: “I’m really excited to be taking part in the Active for All afternoon and encouraging everyone to take part in new activities. For a leisure centre like Hart to open its doors for free to encourage people from across the community to come and get fitter is fantastic to see. I can’t wait to get in the pool and teach the children some new skills.”

Luke Charlton, Everyone Active contract manager, said: “The Active for All afternoon was a great success last time and we can’t wait to see even more new faces in February. We’re delighted to welcome Sascha back to our centre. He has a wealth of experience, not just with his swimming but also inspiring a new generation into the sport.

“We believe that physical activity is important for everyone and excited to showcase our range of inclusive activities for everyone to try.”

Activities will be running throughout the centre until 4pm. View the full list of activities taking place throughout the afternoon.
Pre-booking is advised to ensure your place on the activities. To book for any activity, please contact Hart Leisure Centre on 03330 050 134 or visit our front-of-house team at the centre.
