Close to 300 local people headed for the council offices in Farnborough last Tuesday, 14 March, to explore their home ownership options in a joint event organised by Rushmoor Borough Council and Hart District Council.
The drop-in event, which ran between 3pm and 8pm, gave local residents the opportunity to speak to staff from both councils’ housing teams, government Help to Buy advisors and housing providers, to find out more about the affordable homes available for sale.
They were also able to speak to independent financial advisors about the range of mortgages available, how much they would be expected to pay each month and the size of the deposit required.
Councillor Barbara Hurst, Rushmoor Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Health and Housing, said: “This is the third time we and our colleagues from
Hart have held an event like this and we were really pleased with the turn out and the positive feedback we received. There clearly is a very strong appetite for people to find out more about shared ownership opportunities and other government low-cost home ownership schemes.
“Finding affordable homes to buy in the south east can be very difficult, so events like these, which bring housing providers, financial advisors, local authorities and Help to Buy advisors together under the same roof are proving very popular.”
Comments among the 278 people who attended were:
“Talking to people face to face and having questions answered was most useful.”
“I now feel really confident about my options. Thank you.”
“Great event which helps to put people on the right path.”
Councillor Stephen Gorys, Hart District Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “It’s great that this event was well received by local residents. We’re working hard on providing affordable homes across Hart and Rushmoor and this event showcased how both councils are working with housing providers and local organisations to help get people onto the housing ladder. I look forward to being a part of a similar event in the future.”
