Councils to host successful home ownership event for fifth year running

For the fifth year running, Rushmoor Borough Council and Hart District Council are holding a joint affordable housing event to help residents looking to take their first step on the housing ladder.

The drop-in event, held at the Rushmoor Borough Council offices in Farnborough from 2pm to 8pm, on Tuesday 19 March, is a chance for residents to look into the range of low cost homes available for sale in both areas.

Visitors will be able to talk to specialist staff from the councils’ housing teams, representatives from Help to Buy South - the Government’s affordable home ownership agents - and housing associations.

Independent financial experts will also be on hand to offer mortgage advice and give people some indication of how much they will be able to borrow, the deposit they will need and what they can expect to pay each month on their new home.

Councillor Barbara Hurst, Rushmoor Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning and Economy, said: “These events are always very popular because it’s not often that potential homebuyers can find everyone they need to talk to under one roof. This is an ideal opportunity for people to find out about the affordable homes to buy in Aldershot, Farnborough, Fleet, Hook and, in fact, the whole region.”

Councillor Hurst added: “Good housing lies at the very heart of health and wellbeing, making individuals feel settled and secure, and creating strong communities. This event aims to help those wishing to invest in a place of their own - helping them to find exactly the right home, in the right place and at the right price for them.”

In a new addition to the event, legal representatives will also be on hand to advise potential homebuyers.

Councillor Stuart Bailey, Cabinet Member for Housing at Hart District Council, said: “We are so pleased to be working with Rushmoor Borough Council and Help to Buy South to hold this event for the fifth year running. During the past four years, more than 1,000 residents have attended the event to find out more about getting on and moving up the housing ladder, I would encourage anyone who is thinking about taking this step to come along to the event.”
