Chairman of the Council - Cllr Simon AmblerCouncillor Simon Ambler was elected as Chairman of Hart District Council at the Annual Meeting on 20 May 2021. The new Vice-Chairman of the Council is Councillor Jane Worlock.

The Chairman is the ceremonial head of the Council and first representative of the district.

While in office, the Chairman chairs full Council meetings, supports local events and functions, raises money for charity and furthers the interests and reputation of the Council. The Chairman also maintain links between Hart and other organisations, both voluntary and commercial, and promotes the district on visits elsewhere.

A serving district councillor, the Chairman must remain politically impartial and cannot be a member of the Cabinet. Councillor Ambler has been a councillor since 2005 and is one of three members representing the Crookham West and Ewshot ward.

The Chairman welcomes invitations to attend events held by local organisations such as

  • Schools
  • Businesses

Due to demand, it may not be possible for the Chairman to attend every event to which he is invited.

Chairman's Charities

Every year, our elected Chairman chooses a number of charities and causes to support during their year in office and this year Councillor Ambler has chosen the following three charities to support:

  • Ist Crookham Scout Group - Over 180 boys and girls take part in 3 Beaver colonies, 3 Cub packs and 3 Scout troops - the funds raised will go towards the rebuild of their group HQ in Basingbourne Woods, Church Crookham, Fleet, with any remaining funds supporting the Group's other activities.
  • Young Carers Support - Support to young carers and their families who live in Hart and Rushmoor. There are weekly club sessions, outings, residential and overnight events as well as parents’ support sessions.
  • Inclusion Hampshire - A specialist education provider supporting young people with mental health and additional learning needs- the funds will go towards paying for Casper, their service dog in training. Casper is being trained in Animal Assisted Interventions (AAI).
