Bin changes across Hart

Together with our contractor Serco we are making some changes to waste, recycling and garden waste collections in the district.

From the week beginning Monday 22 July 2019  just under 10% of the district households will see a change to the day or week the waste and recycling is collected. Most of our garden waste customers will also see a change.

These changes are necessary to ensure the smooth running of the service both now and in the future. They will reduce the distance our bin trucks are travelling, accomodate new homes in the area and simplify collections for some residents.

Leaflets will be sent to affected households during the first two weeks of July.  These leaflets will contain details of your collection day, your new timetable and any additional information that may be relevant to your household.

You can look up your collection date and timetable by visiting my area of our website.

New bin collection dates will start from Monday 22 July.

Frequenty asked questions

Why are we making changes?

We are improving bin collection routes and changing some peoples' collection days to make them more efficient and environmentally friendly.

These changes are necessary to ensure the smooth running of the service both now and in the future. The new routes will incorporate new homes and will help crews to finish collections on time

Will my collections be changed?

Less than 10% of homes will see a change in their collection day or week pattern. We will send a leaflet to those affected to explain these changes.

When will my bins be collected?

Look out for a leaflet in the post to see if you are affected or use our bin collection look-up from Monday 1 July.

Collections happen any time during the day from 6.30am. All bins must be out for collection by 6.30am on collection day, or the evening before.

I live in a flat or use a shared bin store, what shall I do?

If your property is affected we will send you a leaflet to update you on the changes to your collections but you do not need to do anything with this information and should continue to place your items in the bin store as normal.

Will my garden waste collections change?

Garden waste collections will change for most customers so look out for a leaflet in the post by Wednesday 17 July. If you do not receive a leaflet or you misplace yours you can look up your new collection date at www.hart.gov.uk/my-area from the 1 July.

What does the leaflet look like?

I haven’t received a leaflet, when will I receive one?

All leaflets will be sent by second class post by Wednesday 17 July. If you haven't received a leaflet then it means that you won't have a change.

When are the bin day changes happening?

From the week commencing Monday 22 July.

Can I put out extra sacks of rubbish next to my black bin?

If you have had a change in your collection day, during the first week of changes you will be able to leave extra bagged waste because of the gap between collections.

My recycling will not be collected for three weeks. What shall I do with recycling I can’t fit into my blue bin?

Some of the changes mean you may wait up to three weeks between recycling collections so you can:

  • Place any extra recycling in a cardboard box next to your blue bin on your next collection day.
  • Use one of the household waste recycling centres to recycle your extras but please note you will need to separate them into different containers on site.

My recycling will not be collected for four weeks. What do I do with recycling that I can’t fit into my blue bin?

If your collection is going to be delayed by over a week please read your leaflet carefully as we have provided details of an additional collection. This will happen on your old collection day during the week commencing Monday 22 July.

Our collections can start as early as 6.30am. Your day may not have changed but other collections on your round have which will affect your collection time. Don’t miss a collection, always put your bin out by 6.30am on your collection day, or the evening before.
