Hart’s Green Garden – Growing Together
What is the project about?
Hart District Council has been working in partnership with Hart Allotment Association and Hart Voluntary Action to develop Hart’s Green Garden.
The project aims to create a welcoming and inclusive community gardening space for residents to Grow Together, in more ways than one. Hart residents from diverse backgrounds can come together around the shared interest of gardening. The project is currently in its build phase and works onsite started at the beginning of June 2021.
Hart’s Green Garden will form a vibrant part of Edenbrook Country Park’s active area. As a beacon of sustainable community gardening, this project supports Hart District Council’s aspiration to establish Edenbrook Country Park as an award-winning Centre of Excellence for health and wellbeing. Shared facilities and spaces include a shelter, compost toilet and communal planting areas which will encourage connections between all site users. A full artistic impression can be seen below.
There are two elements to the overall Green Gardening space:
1. Minding the Garden - a shared community space
The Minding the Garden area will provide a space for the delivery of structured social and therapeutic horticultural activity by Hart Voluntary Action (HVA). Where possible, HVA will also facilitate use of the space by local community groups and voluntary organisations whilst also providing opportunities for local community members to get involved and support the project.
The Minding the Garden team is looking for members to join up and enjoy the outdoors together. The shared garden offers a place to relax, a way to engage with nature, meet other people and to generally just try your hand at growing on the community plots. It aims to build a community across the generations where all are welcome, working together to make sure that everyone can be involved no matter what their ability or disability.
If you are interested in being part of the wider shared garden – please contact Hart Voluntary Action on 01252 815652, email@example.com or visit the hart voluntary action website.
2. Private gardening plots
All of the plots in Hart's Green Garden will be offered, in date order, to those already on Hart Allotment Association's waiting list. This waiting list is extensive, and it is expected that all the plots on Hart's Green Garden will be allocated through this process.
If you wish to join the waiting list for a plot please visit hart-allotments.org.uk where you will find the plot application forms for this site and the Pilcot allotment site on Hitches Lane. For more information about allotments in your area please contact your local Parish Council. If you are keen to get involved consider volunteering with Hart Voluntary Action in the shared area and contact Amanda using the details above.
