Electoral Participation
What is it?
Why is it important?
What do we do?
Our plans for the future
How can you get involved?
Finally, a bit of fun!
Part of our job is to encourage people to get involved in democracy. We do this by running awareness campaigns and working with the community.
Have you ever thought about how politics affects you?
Hart District Council:
- Provides housing and shelter for those in need
- Provide 24 hour CCTV to keep you safer
- Keeps the streets clean
- Collects the rubbish from your home
European & UK Parliaments:-
- Sell the licence that networks use to provide your mobile phone service
- Set the level of pesticides that can be used on food crops
- Decide how much VAT you pay on clothing
- Determine what age you can go into a pub and buy a drink
All of these things are affected by politics. Every day people involved in politics are making decisions that affect you, your family and your friends.
Promote electoral registration by:
- sending posters to local secondary schools, colleges and Military establishments;
- placing posters and notices on public/parish notice boards;
- provide Telephone and Internet services during annual canvass;
- placing articles in Hart News;
- liaising with Unit Registration Officers at military establishments.
Make the electoral process easier to understand by:
- having a translation service;
- a web site that encourages people to register and vote;
- providing tactile voting devices (braille).
Increase awareness of the election process by:
- lending election equipment to local schools;
- assisting in the arrangements for Local Democracy Week.
Encourage others to get involved in the electoral process by:
- placing recruitment posters with local voluntary organisations, colleges and local businesses;
- attending community events, such as:
Fleet CREW Expo - January 2008

Hart Exhibition & Advice Roadshow - September 2008

If you have an idea or suggestion then please submit it to us and we will look into how we might be able to help your idea come alive.
