Making a Complaint about a District or Parish Councillor
If you have reason to believe that a District or Parish Councillor has breached the applicable Code of Conduct and you wish to make a complaint about it you can complete the Councillor Complaint form, which will be considered by sub-committees of the Standards Committee.
The form should be completed as fully as possible, with details of the alleged misconduct including, where possible, dates, witness details and other supporting information. The form should be sent to the Monitoring Officer at Hart District Council, who will acknowledge receipt of the complaint.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
The Complaint will be taken through the following process:
1 The Assessment Sub-Committee
2 The Review Sub-Committee
3 The Investigation
4 Consideration and Hearings Sub-Committee
5 Determination Hearing
You may be able to see this process more clearly on these flowcharts
If you choose to complain about a Councillor please be aware that your identity will normally be disclosed to the subject member, although in exceptional circumstances, if it meets relevant criteria and at the discretion of the Standards Committee, this information may be withheld.
Further, more in-depth information can be obtained from the Standards Board for England at www.standardsboard.gov.uk.
