What Can You Expect from the Planning Team?

The purpose of the Planning Team

Most new buildings, major alterations to existing buildings, as well as changes in the uses of land and buildings need planning permission from the District Council. Our job is to provide the right balance between encouraging development which provides homes, jobs, services for the community and protecting the character of our towns, villages and countryside.  Whilst achieving this, we aim to ensure that local people also have a say in what happens around them.

These pages are designed to enable you to access information and advice on planning issues that may affect you, including guidance on whether you need planning permission, how to make an application, viewing or commenting on an application and concerns you may have regarding a breach of planning control.

Planning Surgery

We offer a planning surgery Monday-Friday 10am-4pm.  This is a drop in service for assistance with completing planning application forms, queries relating to current planning applications and guidance in using the planning online service. However, if you would like to discuss any development proposal with a Planning Officer, you should submit a pre-application enquiry to us in writing.  For more information regarding this service please see ‘Can I get Pre-Application Advice?'  Please note that a fee will be required for this service.
