Urban Characterisation and Density Study
An Urban Characterisation and Density Study (UCDS) has been prepared by The Conservation Studio on behalf of Hart District Council for the six main settlements in Hart District:
- UCDS Main text pdf 8.64MB
- UCDS Blackwater
- UCDS Fleet & Church Crookham
- UCDS Hartley Wintney
- UCDS Hook
- UCDS Odiham
- UCDS Yateley
The study area for each of these settlements is defined by the settlement policy boundary as delineated in the Adopted Hart Local Plan. Additionally, the UCDS does not cover those places already covered by a separate Conservation Area Appraisal.
The objectives of the UCDS are:
- Identify, analyse and describe in a systematic way the form and character of each main settlement and the areas within them
- Provide a legible analysis of the streets and the spaces within each settlement
- Note the mixes of uses and activities
- Analyse the residential density ranges across each settlement
- Analyse the residential form, character and layout, including representative plot characteristics
- Map public transport accessibility and key pedestrian corridors
- Recommend, where appropriate, local design policies and guidance based on the above analysis, taking into account national planning policy.
Each of the six settlements has been divided into Neighbourhood Areas which have in turn been sub-divided into Character Areas, according to historical development, activities, layout and architectural form. The density of residential development has been calculated by measuring a hectare and counting the number of buildings, where there is a typical urban form. Each Character Area has been given a Sensitivity to Change score (High, Medium or Low).
A copy of the Fleet and Church Crookham appendix is £20. The appendices for the remaining settlements are £12 each. If you only require the main report, that is also £12.
