Hart picks a winner for new waste collection
Following a local schools competition set by Hart District Council to find a poster design to represent their new waste collection scheme, a winner has finally been picked.
After nearly three quarters of an hour’s deliberation over 300 entries from the area’s school children, councillors and officers chose Georgina Cliff’s design for its positive and happy recycling message.
Georgina, 10, a pupil at Greenfields Junior School, Hartley Wintney, designed a poster showing a big recycling logo and the words “We Recycle – Do you?” above six grown-ups and children holding hands.
Her design will be carried by the Council’s new recycling and waste collection vehicles.
Making the final choice, Council Leader Dave Neighbour said:
“Choosing a winner was extremely tough. So many children from across Hart have put much effort into their entry that choosing an over all winner was close to impossible.
“We had to decide not just on a design that was artistically good, we also had to consider the message it communicated and how good it would look once it was plastered on the sides of our new refuse vehicle fleet,” he added.
On Friday (3 November) Georgina will be presented with her£20, while her school, Greenfields Juniors will receive £100 to spend on arts and crafts equipment.
In September Hart Council invited schools in the District to come up with a poster to promote its new Alternative Bin Collection scheme. Over 300 hundred pupils from nine schools entered.
