Hart Takes Action Over Fleet Road Parking
FOLLOWING an adjudication which vindicated Hart’s actions but ruled that part of the signage in Fleet Road could be misunderstood the council has removed the limited parking signs from Fleet Road and is now pressing the Department of Transport for alternative solutions for the problem.
The adjudicator did confirm that signs and lines in place were legal and compliant with the Traffic Regulation Order and dismissed most of the points raised in the appeal.
However it was ruled that the two signs might be misleading.
The adjudicator confirmed that the council had done its very best to create clear signs.
In the meantime now that the signs have been removed Hart confirms that the restrictions relating to goods vehicle loading only remain in place. The parking places are still restricted to goods vehicle loading only between 9am and 3pm Monday to Friday.
Hart’s Deputy Leader, Cllr Stephen Parker, commented:” The adjudicator’s decision made it quite clear that the council acted correctly when enforcing the restrictions in Fleet Road and that there is no question of the signage being illegal.
“The sole issue is that the signage that was approved by the Department for Transport was judged by the adjudicator to be misleading.
“The council has taken immediate action to rectify this by removing the limited waiting signs, enabling enforcement of the loading bays to continue. We are now seeking a permanent solution to this problem.”
