CREW Goes District Wide
CRIME Reduction and Environment Weeks have been such a success in different parts of Hart over the last year or two that the next one is to be staged district wide.
Says organiser Richard Denham from the ‘Safer Hart’ Community Safety Team: “ Hart is such a low crime area that we felt able to run one throughout the district this time rather than target different areas.”
The next CREW is from July 19-25 and one of its main themes will be to promote responsible drinking –especially among young people. At the same time it will encourage positive activities during the summer break.
Activities will include test purchasing from stores, increased police and community safety team patrols, confiscation of alcohol and advice to schools and youth groups.
There will also be some graffiti removal, checks on vulnerable vehicles and property, dog warden patrols, licensing checks and estate inspections.
Richard Denham said: “We will be working closely with the police and the county council to tackle underage drinking and anti-social behaviour and we are confident of the results.”
Cllr Nippy Singh, Hart’s Cabinet member for People and Partnerships, commented: “CREW is an excellent local initiative and I encourage residents to continue to report incidents to the non-emergency number 101 as the best intelligence comes from the community.”
