Chairman's Charities Announced
HART’S new Chairman, Cllr Colin Ive has chosen ‘Help for Heroes’ –the charity for injured British servicemen as his main charity during his year of office
Cllr Ive says Hart has had a long link with the Services and this continues through RAF Odiham and the Army at Gibraltar Barracks in Minley.
“I shall be holding a variety of fund raising events during the year and I hope that the public will be as generous as usual in recognition of the work done by our Servicemen and women,” he says.
His second charity will be the Brian Randall Trust Fund set up to help a Yateley youngster who has severe cerebral palsy.
A third charity will be chosen by his vice-chairman Cllr John Kennett of Long Sutton.
During his year of office Cllr Ive intends to campaign on a number of themes –including encouraging people to stand for election to local authorities.
“I was very disappointed by the response to the call for local councillors in the new parish areas,” he says. “Successful democracy depends on local people being involved at all levels.”
He will also continue to press on safety issues. He was Yateley’s fire chief for 26 years and is chairman of Hart Road Safety committee.
“There are people walking around today who would not be here if it had not been for the work that has been done -like issuing free smoke detectors,” he says.
Cllr Ive also wants to bring the chairmanship closer to the people and is urging local organisations to invite him to events in their areas,
