New Recyclables Litter Bins Arrive
HART District Council has just installed two new recycling bins near seating areas in Fleet Road, Fleet –in an attempt to harvest plastics and cans deposited in town centre litter bins.
Nearly 30 per cent of the rubbish put in litter bins can be recycled. During the coming weeks Hart will be monitoring closely the use of the two new bins
Meanwhile litter crews throughout Hart have been asked to remove any recyclable items found whilst litter picking and to extract those that may be visible in litter bins.
This policy is already showing results – since the end of September more than 500 kgs of recyclable material has been separated from street litter.
Battery recycling
Hart has also introduced portable battery collections in various offices around the district. They can be found at the Civic Offices and Harlington Centre in Fleet town centre and Hart and Frogmore Leisure Centres.
The bins accept all portable batteries including button cells SR41/AG3 and SR44/AG13, PP3, AAA, AA, C. D, and 3R 12s. Non-portable batteries can be taken to local Household Waste Recycling Centres.
Cllr Stephen Parker, Cabinet member for the Environment, commented: “Hart people have shown the country how to recycle –but there is always more we can do. These initiatives will make a small but valuable contribution to the district’s recycling record and will point the way to more improvements in the future.”
