Hart Dog Warden Service Offers Reduced Price Micro Chipping for Local Dogs
Hart District Council is working in partnership with a number of town and parish councils to offer subsidised micro chipping to promote responsible dog ownership within the Hart district.
The cost will be £15 per dog but if you have a second or third dog, they can be implanted for an additional charge of £10 per dog.
Dog owners who are in receipt of benefits or a state pension can have their dogs implanted at a cost of £10 per dog with any additional dogs at £5. Anyone claiming the benefits reduction will need to bring proof of their entitlement to state benefits or a pension with them when they have their dog implanted.
The whole procedure takes minutes with filling in the registration form taking longer than the micro chipping! Your dog will be registered on the data-base almost immediately it has been implanted as the Dog Warden Service will be using a laptop to send the owners’ details via the internet.
Having your dog micro chipped really does help with reunification should your dog become lost in the local area or even if you are away on holiday and have taken your dog with you because as well as having your home address details, you can put your mobile phone number on the micro chip and can be contacted wherever you are.
Portfolio Holder for Health and Housing Councillor Susan Band said: “Should your dog be found without a collar and tag and the Dog Warden Service, vets or kennels scan your dog, your details will be on the microchip and you will be contacted immediately.
“This can prevent your dog going off to the holding kennels and you having to pay the current charge of £52.20 to get your dog back,” she continued.
Micro chipping does not replace the requirement for dogs to wear a collar and tag when in public with the owner’s name and address inscribed on the tag or plate attached to the collar.
Micro chipping will be carried out at a number of parish and district council facilities with the first one to be held at Hook Community Centre on Tuesday December 15 starting at 10am. Should you wish to have your dog micro chipped in Hook, please telephone the Dog Warden Service at Hart on 01252 774594 to book an appointment for the day.
There will be further opportunities for your dog to be micro chipped in January and February at other locations around the district.
