Chairman plays Father Christmas for charity
Date: 22 December 2006
Hart Council’s Chairman is getting into the Christmas spirit by dressing up as Father Christmas to raise money for charity.
Chairman Brian Blewett will be donning the red garb and white beard at Redfields Garden Centre, Fleet on Saturday 23 December to listen to children’s Yule Tide wishes.
Commenting on the idea, Cllr Blewett said:
“I thought it would be a great idea to play Santa and in so doing raise money for my nominated charities. I started doing a weekend Santa shift at Redfields on 2 December – this’ll be my third session. I am grateful to my Vice Chairman Sean Haffey who covered the first day of the rota on November 25 and to volunteers from Parity for Disability and some friends for lending their support. I also thank Redfields for generously providing this opportunity.”
Cllr Blewett will be appearing as Santa for the final 3 hours between 1-4pm on Saturday 23 December at Redfields Garden Centre.
Editor’s notes
Cllr Blewett has chosen five disability charities for whom to raise money during his year-long term as Hart District Council chairman: Parity for Disability, DASH, MENCAP, Blackwater Mobility Trust, and Oak Farm Leisure Activity Club.
Redfields Garden Centre’s address is Ewshot Lane, Fleet Hants.
