New Sign for Fleet Nature Site

VISITORS to Basingbourne Heath Site of Importance for Nature Conservation in Fleet will now be able to find out more about –thanks to local resident Andrew Macallan.
Mr Macallan donated an interpretation panel complete with frame, artwork and notice board. Not only did he pay for it but he had the sign individually designed by local graphic artist, Andy Bardell.
The site is owned and managed by Hart District Council’s Countryside Service who see it as an invaluable tool in engaging directly with the local community. Information on the sign includes descriptions of habitats plus forthcoming events such as guided walks and volunteering days and emergency contact details.
Site ranger Tim Ackroyd says: “This sign will enhance the enjoyment of this valuable green space and it will hopefully attract new interest in the management of this site. We are very grateful to Andrew for his very kind donation.
Mr Macallan commented: “I have provided this sign in memory of my wife, who had lived most of her life in Fleet and always cared for the local environment.
“We often do not realise the importance of what we have until it is gone. I hope the sign will help with understanding the importance of Basingbourne Heath and preserving the environment for future generations.”
